Weir, John Ross III , age 60, of El Paso, Texas, died in Lubbock County on Monday, July 20, 2009, after a brief illness.

Born in Waltham on May 12, 1949, he was a son of Nancy (Coburn) Weir-Mailing of Foxboro and the late John Ross Weir, Jr. After his 1968 graduation from Newton High School, he entered the Army and served in Vietnam. John made the Army his career, working for many years as a master mechanic. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was a senior instructor and writer.

John made his home in Texas and continued his education at mortuary school. After working for a time in funeral service, he followed a calling to ministry and earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree at Shalom Bible School.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Allyson N. Weir of College Station, TX, two sons, John R. Weir, IV, of Leander, TX, and Joseph R. Weir, currently stationed with the Army in Korea, a sister, Deborah L. Weir of Foxboro, and five grandchildren. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Paul S. Weir and David A. Weir.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Advent, 28 Pleasant Street, Medfield, on Friday, August 21st at 11:00a.m. Burial with military honors will be at a later date.

If desired, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Church of the Advent Memorial Fund, 28 Pleasant Street, Medfield, MA 02052.

John was a very good friend of ours for many years. John was a good man, loved his family and helped his fellow man every chance he got. We will miss him greatly, and his memory will always be alive and well in everyone that he has touched.

What a twist back in time to think of Johnnie and what a handsome, thoughtful youngster he was. His life seems to have been one of seeking. I hope he found peace.
