Travers, Robert Mackin
, age 87, a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, died peacefully on Monday evening, December 7, 2009, at his Medway home.
Born in Framingham on March 12, 1922, he was a son of the late Edna May (Coombs) and Frank L. Travers, Jr. Bob was raised and educated in Medfield and attended Burdett College for two years prior to enlisting in the Navy to serve during World War II.
Bob decided to make his career with the Navy and continued to serve until 1967. He retired as a Chief of Naval Personnel. Returning to Medfield, Bob was employed for several as a deliveryman for Winn Soap Company and enjoyed membership with the Beckwith Post #110, American Legion and the Franklin VFW Post #3402. He had lived in Medway for the past eight years.
Predeceased by his wife, Lola Marie (Dalo) Travers, he is survived by a daughter, Karla R. Arceneaux and her husband Ron of Val Rico, FL; a son, Matthew G. Travers of Matlacha, FL; a step-son, John V. Grover of Norwood; a grandson, Matthew Masi; three sisters, Jennie Brink of Endicott, NY, Anna Mallory of Franklin, and Edna L. MacDonald of Medway; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Frank L. Travers, III.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church 14 School St., Medway, on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at 11:00a.m.
If desired, donations may be made in his memory to the Medfield Home Committee, 459 Main Street, Medfield, MA 02052.
